Mysore is one of the heritage cities in south of India. It is the second biggest city in the state of Karnataka after Bangalore. While Bangalore is known as Garden City, Mysore is popularly known as City of Palaces. It is a famous tourist center. There are many hotels in Mysore. One can have variety of choices from cheap to low cost to luxury hotels.
As is customary to any city in the world where there are clusters of hotels around bus terminus and railway station, Mysore is also no exception. There are more than 500 places where one can find accommodation in Mysore. But one has to be very careful in choosing proper place to stay. Though majority of the hotels will comply with legal requirements and decent, hygiene could be one of the issues, especially in cheap hotels.
There are many star hotels in Mysore - ranging from single star to 5-star. Amongst 5-star, Lalitha Mahal Palace is the best in terms of architectural marvel. This was once belonging to Mysore Maharaja and now taken over by Ashok Group of Hotels, a Government of India undertaking. But I would not subscribe anyone to dine there. There are various other places to dine in Mysore.
In the mid segment, there are plenty of hotels in Mysore. In that category, one can bet on Pai Vista. This is situated opposite to suburban bus stand. There is a very good restaurant in the hotel viz., Goofa. One can relish authentic Indian food there. Though a bit costlier the ambiance is very good.
In the budget hotel category, I would recommend to Ginger Hotels. This is in Nazarbad. This is a kind of self serviced accommodation. This is very near to the famous Mysore Palace. This group belongs to famous Indian business house called TATA. Near this hotel, there is a famous eat out known for its dosa. This eat out is called Mylary. I found many westerners preferring to go and dine dosa there. I had cherished many times and it is really tasty.
I had widely travelled around the world. I stayed in many hotels. I found the ambiance similar across the hotels around the world. Later on when I stayed in bed and breakfast inns in Europe and New Zealand, I found it was offering a fantastic experience. Then onwards, I stayed in many bed and breakfast inns with my family. It gave us an opportunity to understand the local customs and traditions. Because you live with them.
I was very much fascinated and developed a passion to open a bed and breakfast inn in Mysore. I belong to Mysore. Fortunately I had an architecturally designed house in Mysore to fulfill my passion. It also gives me an opportunity to show to the world the best hospitality Indians can offer to their guests.
Though the concept of bed and breakfast is not popular in India, there is a small beginning happening around the cities like Mysore. People who search for hotels in Mysore also now started experimenting home stay for many reasons including for cost reasons.
